Putting together this website is a nice little reminder (for me) of how easy it is to become consumed with STUFF to the point of neglecting promises, commitments, or what ‘should’ be our priorities. I’ve lost sleep. I’ve neglected projects. I’ve ignored housekeeping. And I’ve ‘forgotten’ other little duties and responsibilities, even some that are tied to my Lent plan. All because of the website.
I console myself by saying (in my head!) that the website, too, is a priority. It has a good purpose. And once it is complete, it will hopefully be a great resource for others. But I can’t help feeling like that is an excuse, because really, the little duties of my life should be my priority. The things I am to care for on a daily basis – the things that need tended to — the people that need something from me that perhaps I have promised. So I am chalking this one up to ‘lesson learned’ and reminding myself that keeping our pride in check (along with our priorities) is critical to ensuring that we accomplish what needs to be accomplished every single day.
Our ‘to-do’ list may not include anything earthshaking or monumental, but remembering to do all of our tasks of the day and to do them WELL and with LOVE helps ensure that we are growing in virtue even when we don’t realize it. Needless to say, I have to re-shuffle my priorities … my ‘to-do’ list … and get everything back in proper perspective, tending to what is important on a daily basis first, particularly what involves my personal relationship with God, and then everything else will fall into place.
